An Ode to the Moon

Some Kiss We Want ~ Rumi

There is some kiss we want with
our whole lives, the touch of spirit on the body.
Seawater begs the pearl to break its shell.
And the lily, how passionately it needs some wild darling!
At night, I open the window and ask
the moon to come and press its face against mine.
Breathe into me.
Close the language- door and open the love window.
The moon won't use the door, only the window.

While you may or may not worship the moon - the sheer beauty of the full moon on a crisp winter night demands one’s attention and awe.  That silent moment alone, looking up at the sky in wonder, is a moment to be thankful for.  And if you dare to peek under the cover, to allow your heart to open and your mind to be free, this silence moment facilitates exploration of your connection to the earth.  You may reflect on how little your problems are when faced with the grand beauty of this celestial body.  Perhaps, even, your knowledge that without the moon’s gravitational pull on the ocean, no life would exist on earth, including yours - brings a certain appreciation toward the moon.  Now, what started out as a mere glance, with the right meditative mind and openness to the present moment, turned into a deeper understanding of the grand order of the universe and our connection to it.

Let’s give thanks to the full moon, February 18th, 2011.
